Fixing Flat Bike Tires
Yesterday, I had my longest ride of the year at four hours. The day was flat-out spectacular. The late “winter” day in Arizona afforded me pleasantly cool and sunny conditions. I kept remarking how fantastic the day was for riding. Physically, I felt awesome even though I was at the end of a three-week Base 2 cycle. Sure my legs had a little latent fatigue, but overall, they were responsive and steady. Thanks to temperatures in the low-60s, I never got too hot or cold. That also made nutrition a snap, requiring only...

Somedays, you can feel like you won the lottery! A sale on the Insanity Workout in April? That’s pretty sweet. But wait, there’s more… ok, it isn’t a set of Ginsu knives; it is better. The sale is not for the Insanity Workout but for an Insanity Challenge Pack! Rather than the regular price of $205, for this month, the Insanity Challenge Pack is only $180. That’s a big savings compared to the regular price and a HUGE savings off purchasing Insanity and Shakeology separately (those would sell for...

During my 56 mile bike ride, I had a fair amount of time. Well, two hours and forty-six minutes to be exact. During that time, my mind unsurprisingly wandered but also began to write what I thought would be this race report. I was having visions of where my race would go, what would happen, and the story I would tell. Comically, that story did not, in fact, unfold as planned. My “the worst that happened to me today” moment was going to be about my sunglasses snapping in two during T1. More on this later, but I was fully...

What is there to say about these trips? In 2011, the Success Club vacation was a Caribbean cruise (read about that here). If you don’t want to read about it, it was incredible. In 2012, Beachbody raised the stakes by taking everyone to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. Just like the cruise, that was equally amazing. This year, though, the focus was a little more family-oriented with a trip to DisneyWorld. While that might not have been my first choice of vacation, as a Dad, I was pretty excited because I knew my kids would be...

Ever thought about doing P90X or P90X2??? Well, this month is your best time to start. Beachbody has discounted the cost for a P90X Challenge Pack and a P90X2 Challenge Pack this month only. These normally cost $205, but are only $180 for all of March. These can be purchased by new and existing customers and by new Coaches. That’s a huge discount when you consider that the $205 price is already a savings of approximately $55 versus purchasing P90X or P90X2 and Shakeology. Either program plus Shakeology will cost $240-$250,...

I never thought Ragnar would be easy. In all fairness, who knew that sleep deprivation, running, and random eating could reduce one so? I sure didn’t. But, as brutal as Ragnar felt at times, it was one of the coolest things I have ever done, without a doubt. I mean, it can’t be epic if it is easy right??? For those unfamiliar with Ragnar, it is a relay series race covering just over 200 miles. People create teams of runners, with the standard (and largest) being 12 people to what is called an “Ultra” or 6 people. There...

I don’t know about you, but I only have twenty-four hours in the day. If, somehow, you have more, PLEASE tell me how you did that. Sadly, until then, I will keep trying to be as efficient as possible in everything I do. This certainly includes eating. Yes, I am somewhat of a health and fitness nut but I enjoy living like that. Crazy, I know, but pre-dawn swims and runs that start long before sunrise and at near freezing temperatures somehow make me smile and feel good. Well, sort of good. When it comes to eating health...

In my seemingly constant quest to (a) eat healthier and (b) eat less meat, I find myself frequently pondering how to make something I love to eat (e.g., tacos) without what I consider to be a critical ingredient (e.g., chicken in this case). My goal to eat as healthy as possible is an obvious pursuit but, I don’t attempt to eat less meat in some vain attempt to began vegan. I also don’t think that eating meat is terribly unhealthy. Moderation and variety are my goals. Must some form of meat be present in every single meal?...

When Costco has their seafood display, I simply cannot resist checking out everything. The fish looks good but is generally all farmed (versus wild caught) and I have yet to decide whether farmed or wild caught is better. Plus, I am still wondering whether the whole Fukushima disaster is impacting fishing in the Pacific. I am not an environmental scientist or a marine biologist, but I have just read way too many articles advising people to avoid pacific caught fish. Is this legitimate? I have no clue, but it makes me a little nervous...

Normally, I call these posts “Race Reports” but there was NOTHING about racing yesterday. Well, maybe I was racing against myself and, to a lesser extent, the clock. But, I was certainly not racing against any of the other runners. Sure, I would have loved to have come in first but, the reality was, there were some faster than me (and I had zero chance of beating them) and some slower than me (and they had zero chance of beating me). While I certainly had some time goals (what a farce those turned out to be), my only real goal was...
