The life of a Dad who strives to be the best dad possible

P90X Review

What is P90X? Maybe the baddest, most awesomest program even created. If P90X is not Number 1, it certainly is in the discussion. P90X is, in short, an extreme fitness program, created by fitness trainer Tony Horton, and designed to get people in the best shape of their lives.

With P90X, you get:

  • Twelve Fitness DVDs (Chest and Back; Plyometrics; Shoulders and Arms; Kenpo X; Core Synergistics; Legs and Back; Yoga X; Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps; Cardio X; Back and Biceps; X Stretch; and Ab Ripper X),
  • A “How to Bring It” DVD giving you a quick overview of the complete P90X Extreme Home Fitness training system,
  • A P90X Wall Calendar to let you know what to do each day, set your goals, and track your progress,
  • The Fitness Guide, and
  • The Nutrition Guide.

The Fitness Guide is packed with helpful information and tools to help you set your workout goals, choose an appropriate workout plan, track your progress, and stay motivated.  With over 100 pages of great detail, the guide has everything you need.  Each exercise is thoroughly explained, with both pictures and words.  If you wanted to periodically take your P90X workout to the gym, the descriptions make that possible.  You can also tailor the program to ensure you get the results you want.  The guide details three different versions: Classic, Lean, and Doubles.  The Classic version equally balances resistance training and cardio, with sufficient stretching and core work, to get you as ripped as you want.  The Lean focuses more on cardio for those seeking to shed some extra pounds while adding muscle, a definite favorite among women.  The Doubles, well, it is just extreme.  Being the same as Classic, but with an added cardio workout on resistance days, Doubles will maximize your results in the least amount of time!

Just as awesome as the Fitness Guide, is the Nutrition Guide.  Designed to help you lose fat, build lean muscle, and maintain high levels of energy through each part of the program, this guide is critical.  Just like the exercise descriptions in the Fitness Guide, the Nutrition Guide fully explains how, what, and when you are supposed to eat while giving you the why behind the instructions.  This guide will forever changes your dietary habits and help you stay ready to pursue any fitness objectives you set.  Set up in three phases, the guide begins with a “fat shredder” phase to help you lose some unnecessary pounds, and then shifts to increase your overall intake to help you build muscle, while keeping your weight optimized.  When I began P90X, I knew I had to completely commit to the Nutrition Guide to get the results I wanted.  I urge you to do the same.  What you eat will ultimately determine your results!

For me, P90X literally was a life-changer. Read my full transformation story here. My life will never be the same and for that I am extremely grateful!

The Important Questions:

1.  Who can use P90X? ANYONE.  While P90X is designed to be extreme, each DVD shows modifications to enable anyone, of any fitness, to follow, continue, and improve.  From wanting to lose weight to getting cut, the three versions enable anyone to pursue their own objectives.  Whether you are skinny and wanting to gain some muscle mass or overweight and wanting to shed pounds and get tone, P90X can work for you.  I know, without a doubt, that if it worked for me, it will work for you!

2.  What makes P90X different from other workout programs? The secret is called Muscle Confusion, which accelerates your results by constantly introducing new moves and routines so your body never plateaus.  With three 30-day phases, each with new workouts, you will not get bored and your body will always be tested.  The order and progressions of the DVDs, detailed in the Fitness Guide, work together to get you in the best shape of your life!

3.  What do you need to do P90X? Not much, beyond a willingness to work hard!  The resistance DVDs require the use of either weights or bands.  Both will work successfully.  I have done a full 90 days with each.  You can read my Weights v. Bands review HERE.  You will also need to be able to do OR simulate a pull-up.  After my first 90 days with bands, I installed a simple pull-up on my back patio (much to my wife’s chagrin!)  HERE is how I simulated pull-ups using bands, a door hinge, and a hand towel.  That is all you need to change your life completely.

Not only do you get the twelve DVDs, both the awesome Fitness and Nutrition Guides, the wall calendar, and the “How to Bring It” DVD, all allowing you to maximize your results and reach your goals, but if you order through me, I will be your Coach and help guide you through the program.  I want you to get the results you want and be in the best shape of your life!
